San José adult literacy: an interest form starts the learning plan
San José Public Library's Literacy & Learning Services offers free adult support through individual tutoring, small groups and workshops. Goals can include reading, writing, English communication, everyday mathematics and basic computer skills. It is a learning-support service, not an automatic certificate obtained by filling in a form.
The current official page lists eligibility as being at least eighteen, not currently in high school, and living, working or studying in San José. A library membership is not required to apply. Learners can explain practical goals at different skill levels.
Begin with the Learner Interest Form, with family or staff assistance if useful. Staff then arrange an orientation and help match the learner with a tutor, class or workshop. Contact a current Literacy and Learning Center for help rather than travelling to the former, closed PAR office.
