Stanford Korean courses: choosing a level and understanding enrollment limits
Enrolled Stanford students planning Korean study can consult the Language Center’s Korean program page for beginning, intermediate, advanced-intermediate and advanced options. Check the official course listings separately for actual offerings and meeting times in the relevant quarter.
The program’s official FAQ restricts these classes to undergraduate and graduate students officially enrolled at Stanford. It says non-Stanford students cannot audit or take them for credit, so they should not be treated as open community classes.
Students with prior Korean experience should explain their reading, writing and speaking background and ask about placement. The FAQ says the coordinator recommends a level following placement assessment. It also allows starting at the beginning of a later quarter when proficiency matches an available level; this does not guarantee mid-quarter admission or an open seat.
