Facing vehicle repossession: contact the lender early and check the remaining balance
If car payments become difficult, the FTC recommends contacting the lender early about a delay or revised schedule and keeping any new agreement in writing. Voluntarily returning the vehicle may still leave a deficiency and fees after its sale, and may affect your credit record.
