買外州低里程車前：先核加州排放認證，不把聯邦合格當作已能登記
外州車輛符合聯邦排放標準，不代表一定可在加州登記。DMV 的 California Noncertified Vehicle 指引特別列出少於七千五百英里、只有聯邦排放認證車輛的豁免程序，購買前應先核實車身標籤與自己的取得情況。

Before buying a low-mileage out-of-state vehicle: check California emissions eligibility
Federal emissions certification does not automatically make an out-of-state vehicle eligible for California registration. DMV's California Noncertified Vehicle guidance describes an exemption process for vehicles with fewer than 7,500 miles that meet only federal emissions standards. Check the vehicle's labels and circumstances of acquisition before committing to a purchase.
Examples include inheritance, a divorce award, or acquiring the vehicle while resident or on active military duty in the state where it was last registered. A replacement bought while outside California after the owner's California-registered vehicle was stolen or damaged beyond reasonable repair has separate evidence requirements. A declaration alone does not guarantee acceptance.
The official process calls for REG 256F, documented exemption evidence and ordinary registration documents. Direct imports from abroad have additional rules and should not be confused with this process. Ask DMV to review the facts before buying. This guide neither approves a particular vehicle nor recommends alterations or accumulating mileage to evade requirements.
