NYC building textile collection: applying for a shared collection bin
NYC's Department of Sanitation offers free stationary textile-collection bins for eligible buildings. The current service page names NYSID and Helpsy as partners. Old refashionNYC brochures should not be used to assume the present operator or tax arrangements.
Eligible sites include apartment buildings with at least ten units, offices, certain commercial premises, schools and nonprofits. An appropriate building contact should apply first. The service then assesses bin numbers, sizes and placement during a visit. This is not a promise to collect one resident's bag immediately after a form is submitted.
Accepted categories include clothing, shoes and other accessories, towels, curtains, bedding and clean damaged textiles. Arrange collection through the service contact when bins are full. Materials are sorted for reuse or reprocessing; each item is not necessarily handed directly to an individual recipient. This guide registers no building, guarantees no pickup date and offers no secondhand merchandise for sale.
