New York policy or claim problems: prepare an insurance complaint to DFS
For a New York insurance policy, cancellation or claim-handling problem, first raise the issue with the company and keep its response. Then review the Department of Financial Services consumer-complaint route. Set out the policy number, important dates, disputed amount and requested resolution clearly rather than providing only a general expression of dissatisfaction.
The official form asks for copies of supporting records, not your only originals. The online portal can be used to submit a complaint, add information and check its status. Before filing, note that DFS may share a copy with the company or person named in the complaint.
An ordinary insurance complaint, medical external appeal and no-fault automobile arbitration are different procedures. Select the appropriate route and preserve other contractual or appeal deadlines. Filing is not a guaranteed payment or automatic pause of another deadline. Official complaint forms include a Traditional Chinese option.
