San José Public Library

San José seed libraries: take what you need and share back
San José Public Library's seed libraries offer seeds free to the public, without requiring a library card. The official instructions are to visit a participating branch, check what is available, take seeds and sign the register with your name and the varieties taken.
Take only what you need for the season and consider saving seed to return after harvest. Small garden-seed donations are welcomed throughout the year; ask the branch before bringing a large quantity. Varieties differ, and a summer list on the website is not confirmation of October stock.
For example, Cambrian Branch is at 1780 Hillsdale Avenue, 408-808-3080. Its listing describes a catalogue with germination, light, spacing and planting-depth information. Confirm opening times and varieties before visiting. This is a community-sharing resource, not a seed sale or a promise of germination or harvest.
