New York Shichigosan, October 24–25: eligibility, $70 fee and conflicting kimono information
Japan Society and the International Shinto Foundation list their 2026 Shichigosan celebration at Japan Society Auditorium, 333 East 47th Street, New York, NY 10017. Sessions are Saturday, October 24 at 1 p.m., and Sunday, October 25 at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. The Japanese cultural event uses a Shinto ceremony to celebrate children’s growth; it is not medical care or a promise of health outcomes.
The stated child eligibility is boys aged 3 or 5 and girls aged 3 or 7, accompanied by parents or other relatives. All nationalities are welcome, and Japan Society also expressly welcomes all religions. The $70 child fee includes a prayer offering, protective amulet, chitose ame candy and a UNICEF donation. One registration normally covers up to five people including the participating child; contact the organizer first about additional guests.
