DFC political risk insurance: screen the overseas project before exploring coverage
DFC lists insurance against losses from currency inconvertibility, government interference and political violence, including terrorism. An overseas investor should first check country availability, commercial viability and DFC’s environmental, social, development and management-track-record requirements. Doing business abroad alone does not establish eligibility.
Start with Apply on the official Insurance page or ask info@dfc.gov about the appropriate product. Prepare the project location, business, investment structure, financial position and private-financing background. Actual risks, premiums, duration and exclusions depend on formal review and the policy. This differs from export-receivables protection against foreign-buyer nonpayment and does not guarantee investment returns.
