Alameda commuters: register for Guaranteed Ride Home before an emergency
Permanent full-time and part-time employees working in Alameda County can register for Guaranteed Ride Home if they commute by transit, shared ride, walking or cycling on the relevant day. Eligible disruptions include illness or a serious crisis affecting the employee or immediate family, supervisor-requested unexpected overtime that misses the planned ride, and a failed carpool vehicle. Residence outside the county is allowed.
This is reimbursement for qualifying emergency travel, not everyday free transportation. Current limits are ten uses per calendar year, up to $125 per trip and $600 per year; fuel and tips are excluded. Arrange eligible transportation, retain proof of payment and submit through the official Getting Reimbursed instructions. Planned appointments, personal errands and anticipated overtime do not qualify. Read the full rules rather than applying the limits of another county’s similarly named program.
