New York insurance communications: request safer contact details when disclosure could endanger you
If insurance claim or billing communications could put you in danger, clearly request reasonable alternative delivery methods or an alternative address from the insurer. New York DFS explains that the right concerns the covered person’s claim information; a parent or guardian may act for a covered child.
Ask the insurer for its confidential-communications procedure or form, specify a safe contact method and confirm that the arrangement is recorded. DFS provides a sample form. Insurers also have address and telephone confidentiality duties when given a valid protection order. This insurance arrangement does not itself update records held by other agencies, doctors or banks.
