New York PIRP courses: point reduction does not erase a violation
New York's PIRP is a DMV-approved safety course delivered by authorized providers, not any online defensive-driving video. Before paying, check approval for both the provider and delivery method and ask that provider about fees.
Completion can reduce by up to four the points used for an applicable suspension calculation. Tickets, convictions and points still appear on the driving record. The course cannot offset future violations, cancel mandatory suspension or eliminate a Driver Responsibility Assessment. It is not a reason to postpone responding to a court notice.
An eligible principal operator can receive a ten-percent reduction in the base liability and collision premium for three years. General or incident-related premium increases do not disappear. Submit the completion certificate promptly: the insurer's effective-date arrangements differ when presentation occurs within ninety days or later. Check the record and insurance processes separately. This guide guarantees neither avoidance of suspension nor a ten-percent fall in the entire insurance bill.
