West Valley free tuition: verify the service-area address before applying Promise rules
West Valley College's service-area Free College program first checks residence and California-resident or AB 540 in-state tuition eligibility. Its area includes Campbell, Los Gatos, Santa Clara, Saratoga, Alviso and parts of San Jose and Sunnyvale. Use the official address search and your WVM Portal rather than relying on a city name alone.
This service-area program currently has no minimum-unit requirement, unlike some separate full-time Promise schemes. Eligible grants are credited after the semester starts and cover tuition and mandatory fees. If a balance appears, ask the college rather than assuming all charges have been waived or can be ignored.
The page describes semester-by-semester eligibility review and a two-year support arrangement beginning in spring 2025, not an unlimited promise. International and nonresident students do not qualify for this particular program. Check textbook, technology and other aid separately. An older FAFSA year remains in the FAQ, so use current-year forms for other assistance and ask the Welcome Center to confirm enrollment and charges.
