AALEAD youth mentoring: family applications and volunteer requirements
Asian American LEAD matches youth aged 8–18 with adult mentors supporting life, social and academic skills while helping navigate language and cultural barriers. Staff consider the young person’s goals, language, interests and career aspirations alongside a mentor’s abilities; submitting a form does not produce an immediate self-selected match.
Mentor applicants must be at least 21, live in the DC/Maryland/Virginia metropolitan area, pass background and reference checks, and commit for at least a year. Requirements include training, about five hours of contact a month and regular staff communication. Families and volunteers have separate official application routes and can ask mentoring@aalead.org for details.
