Taking the GED in New York: check residency and age requirements before scheduling
New York uses the GED as its high-school-equivalency examination and pays testing costs for New York residents who meet age requirements. The four subject areas are language arts, mathematics, science and social studies. Create a GED account with your own email address and select New York as the testing jurisdiction.
NYSED lists requirements including at least 30 days of New York residence. Applicants under 19 must follow the age-eligibility form instructions to obtain permission; creating an account alone does not permit scheduling. Candidates who previously passed certain New York TASC or GED subjects can ask whether earlier scores count, avoiding unnecessary retesting. Confirm eligibility and remaining subjects before booking through the official system.
