Medicare questions in five Northern California counties: free Passages HICAP appointments
The California Department of Aging lists Passages HICAP for Butte, Colusa, Glenn, Plumas and Tehama counties. Passages says its free service helps with Medicare issues regardless of age; people asking about Medicare need not all be at least sixty-five.
Trained, state-registered counselors help explain benefits, compare Medicare Advantage, Medigap and Part D drug plans, and explore long-term-care insurance and government cost-assistance programs. This is objective information and problem-resolution support, not approval of an individual's subsidy or claim.
For Chico or Paradise, call 530-898-6716. Other areas in the service region can use 800-434-0222; email is passageshicap@csuchico.edu. Published hours are Monday–Friday, 9 a.m.–4 p.m. Explain your county, question and language needs, then confirm the appointment format and documents. Keep Medicare numbers and medical records out of public comments. The office is listed at 25 Main Street, Suite 202, Chico, CA 95928; confirm an appointment before visiting.
