In an Associated Press interview, US Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott defended southern border wall and infrastructure plans. Comparing maritime enforcement along the Washington–Canada border with security needs in the south, he argued that the two borders do not require identical deployments.
Scott said technology is being incorporated into the wall project, with completion targeted before the administration ends. Distinguishing the Big Bend Border Patrol sector from the national park within it, he argued that gaps could draw criminal organizations toward the area as other routes become harder to cross.
