Bakersfield October 31 emissions event: conditional repair vouchers up to $500
Valley CAN lists a Tune In & Tune Up event for Saturday, October 31, 2026, 7:45–11:45 a.m., at Kern County Fairgrounds’ South Gate, 1142 S P St, Bakersfield, CA 93307. Service is first-come. Gates may open at 6:30 a.m. and close at 11:45; expect a wait exceeding two hours. Recheck the official event page before traveling.
Eligible residents live in San Joaquin, Stanislaus, Merced, Madera, Fresno, Kings or Tulare counties, or the valley portion of Kern County. Only gasoline-powered light/medium-duty vehicles under 14,000 pounds qualify, not diesels. The vehicle must attend and start and run, even if towed because of PNO status or expired tags. Bring contact details and the VIN; a license and registration speed check-in.
The free screening does not issue a smog certificate. A failed emissions test or qualifying emissions-related diagnostic code may qualify for a voucher of up to $500 for approved emissions work at participating STAR test-and-repair shops. A check-engine light alone is insufficient. A vehicle with a redeemed repair voucher in the preceding twelve months is ineligible for another. This is conditional repair support, not cash or general maintenance funding.
