Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis(CESTA)合作建立的網上展覽。

Returning and Remembering、Crafting Survival、Art in the Diaspora

Việt Museum’s online exhibit: exploring Vietnamese refugee experiences through objects and oral history

Việt Museum in San Jose developed the Vietnamese Refugee Archive Exhibit with Stanford University’s Center for Spatial and Textual Analysis (CESTA). Working with the local Vietnamese refugee community, the online project combines digitized art, artifacts and oral histories to make different personal and family experiences more accessible.

The exhibit has three sections: Returning and Remembering, Crafting Survival, and Art in the Diaspora. For example, Crafting Survival describes a bag made from used rice bags, found materials and wire, and a box fashioned from scrap metal into the shape of a book. Object descriptions and dimensions help readers understand how limited materials became practical or commemorative objects. Note the maker, materials, period and source of the account before discussing similarities or differences with relatives; one person’s story should not stand for every refugee’s experience.

For an in-person visit, the official page lists History Park, 635 Phelan Avenue, San Jose, CA 95112, and (408) 679-9149. That page does not provide opening hours or an admission price that this review could verify, so contact the museum before travelling. Online access does not mean unrestricted reuse of every artifact photograph. This review confirmed readable exhibition text pages, but did not individually test every 3D or audiovisual embed.
