FEMA household assistance: check the designated area and application route when insurance leaves gaps
FEMA’s Individuals and Households Program may assist eligible people with uninsured or underinsured disaster-related needs. Use DisasterAssistance.gov to check whether the address is in an area designated for Individual Assistance and verify that disaster’s filing deadline. Each benefit has additional criteria; a federal declaration does not approve every resident or loss.
File promptly with any home, renters or flood insurer and retain records. FEMA does not replace insurance or make every loss whole. Apply online, through the FEMA app, by calling 800-621-3362 or at a Disaster Recovery Center. Prepare identity, insurance, damage, income, contact and payment details and submit through official channels. Reporting damage to a local government does not itself complete FEMA registration.
