Checking an insurer: use the legal company name in NAIC searches
NAIC’s Consumer Insurance Search provides information about insurer complaints, licensing and financial health. A brand may include several subsidiaries. Find the actual underwriting company’s legal name on the quote or policy before searching, so you do not rely on another subsidiary’s record.
Select the relevant company’s report options and confirm licensing with your state insurance department. No search result does not, by itself, prove that a company is unlicensed; NAIC directs consumers to their state department for help. The records help identify the insurer but do not guarantee payment of a particular claim under your policy.
