Texas CSHCN: distinguish an application, a waiting list and active health benefits
Texas’s Children with Special Health Care Needs Services Program assists residents meeting medical and household financial requirements, generally through age 20, with an age exception for cystic fibrosis. Applications require documents including a Provider Assessment Form completed by a physician or dentist, and review of other potentially available coverage.
Applying or joining the waiting list is not active health coverage. Service dates must fall within an eligible period, and families should check whether the provider participates. Renew and update information as required even while waiting. Call 800-222-3986 for applications or renewals, or 877-888-2350 for enrolled-client questions about health-service authorization or billing.
