California vehicle breakdown coverage: identify the party obligated to pay
California distinguishes vehicle service contracts from mechanical breakdown insurance. The obligation may rest with a licensed Vehicle Service Contract Provider, a dealer, or an insurer. Identify the named obligor responsible for payment; similar marketing names do not establish the same legal arrangement.
Before buying, locate the provider’s full name, coverage terms and any backup insurer, then check licensing and complaint routes. An unsolicited call or letter claiming that a warranty is expiring is not a reason to pay immediately. Use the insurance department’s guide and contact the dealer or provider through independently verified details.
