Postal Service Health Benefits: check the Medicare Part B rules before retirement

Since 2025, USPS employees, annuitants and eligible family members receive the relevant health coverage through Postal Service Health Benefits. PSHB is a separate postal program within FEHB, so use its plan information instead of relying on an old non-postal FEHB list.

Some Medicare-eligible annuitants and family members need Part B to retain PSHB. OPM lists exceptions tied to retirement dates, age and other circumstances. Before retirement, ask the benefits office to check the applicable exception and effective date, and review the plan’s prescription arrangements. One postal retiree’s situation does not establish the rule for every family.
