Finding an auto repair shop: distinguish public shops from fleet facilities in the ASE Blue Seal locator
ASE's Blue Seal Business Locator searches by location and radius. Ordinary vehicle owners should select Public. Non-Public identifies facilities serving fleets or municipal agencies rather than the general public. Listings can also include parts or support businesses, so check the category before contacting one.
For repair businesses, Blue Seal requirements include ASE certification for at least 75% of technicians performing diagnosis and repairs, with at least one appropriately certified technician covering each service area offered. Facilities employing full-time service consultants or estimators must also meet the corresponding certification requirement. ASE reviews eligibility each year.
Contact the selected business to ask whether it handles your vehicle and problem, when inspection is available, and how estimates and repair authorization work. The search tool is free; diagnostic work and repairs are not thereby free. A listing is not a guarantee of a particular price, warranty or completion date.
