New York childhood lead testing: age-one and age-two tests plus risk assessment
New York’s health department calls for blood-lead testing at ages one and two. Children from six months through six years also need exposure-risk assessment during well-child care, at least annually; identified risks may lead to additional blood testing.
Ask the child’s provider or local health department where testing is available. Keep results for follow-up. Elevated levels require appropriate repeat testing, medical management and advice on reducing exposure. The official site offers multilingual parent materials that can help prepare questions for a visit. Symptoms alone should not be used to decide whether exposure occurred.
