Developmental concerns in New York: parents can contact Early Intervention directly
New York’s Early Intervention Program serves eligible children under three with developmental delays or disabilities. Parents with concerns may make a referral directly to their county program rather than waiting for another person to open a case. A doctor may also refer unless the parent objects.
Service coordination and evaluation follow to determine eligibility. Written parental consent is needed before evaluation or services. Call 800-522-5006 for the local entry point; New York City residents can call 311. An early inquiry helps clarify the process, but a referral is not a diagnosis or a guarantee of every service.
