New York long-term-care Partnership: existing policies remain relevant, but new policies are unavailable
New York’s official long-term-care Partnership page says insurers are not currently offering new Partnership-qualified policies. This does not affect existing, active qualified policyholders. When reading older promotional material, distinguish an existing policy from an opportunity to buy new coverage.
The program connects private long-term-care insurance with Medicaid Extended Coverage. Policyholders who use benefits under the program’s conditions may apply for extended coverage; the amount of protected assets depends on the policy type, and approval is not automatic. Locate your policy and participation agreement before asking the program about existing benefits. Premium-increase questions go to the New York DFS Consumer Assistance Bureau at 800-342-3736.
