CalPERS requires retirement within one hundred twenty days of separation, a monthly retirement allowance, health-enrollment eligibility at separation and an applicable employer and bargaining-unit health contract. For an already enrolled member, separation and retirement within thirty days generally allow coverage to continue. A gap of thirty-one to one hundred twenty days requires an enrollment request within sixty days of retirement. The retiree page says a gap exceeding one hundred twenty days prevents carrying this health coverage into retirement; receiving a pension alone does not establish eligibility. After retirement, CalPERS becomes the health-benefits contact. Use myCalPERS, its designated form or 888-225-7377. Have both dates and employer details ready, and ask separately about the effective date and premium contribution. Qualifying events or open enrollment may provide later change opportunities, but late applications are not automatically excused. Eligibility also does not mean the employer pays the entire premium.
