English California mature-driver courses: check approval and insurer requirements California DMV describes its Mature Driver Improvement Program as an eight-hour course for drivers aged 55 and older. Topics include road rules and how fatigue, medication and sensory changes can affect driving. It provides an opportunity to refresh safety knowledge. Use DMV's approved-provider list, then ask about teaching format, language, fees and dates. Listed contact details do not mean a class has space today. The completion certificate lasts three years and can be renewed through a four-hour course. It is not a license renewal or a finding that a particular person is fit to drive. An insurer may offer a course discount; confirm accepted courses and certificate requirements with your insurer rather than assume savings. The provider list carries a February 10, 2026 revision date, not an original publication date for this guide. Confirm actual sessions with the provider.
