When other coverage starts, changes or ends, update the provider and TRICARE contractor and submit the regional other-insurance form. Sending a claim to TRICARE too early can result in denial. Medicaid, TRICARE supplements and some other programs have different ordering; people with Medicare must check the applicable sequence. Follow the other plan’s network, referral and authorization rules. A denial for breaking those rules does not mean TRICARE will cover the bill. Active-duty members using other insurance face special restrictions: TRICARE is not their secondary payer. They should first consult their service personnel component.
