The Texas Department of Insurance explains that off-premises property often has a percentage cap, commonly ten to twenty percent of personal-property coverage. Your own contract controls; that range is not a universal rule. List the items, their values and the storage location. Ask about theft, fire, wind, flood and deductibles. Valuable art, collections or furniture may need specific additional protection, while neither a home policy nor a storage policy should be assumed to include flood damage.
