CMS explains that coordination-of-benefits rules determine the primary payer. A secondary payer applies its own coverage rules to remaining costs; it does not automatically erase every personal charge. Tell the Benefits Coordination & Recovery Center, or BCRC, about employment, retirement, spouse-employment or insurance changes, and inform doctors and other providers. Answer an official Medicare Secondary Claim Development Questionnaire promptly and keep a copy. Use the contact route on CMS's website if assistance is needed. For example, current-employment group coverage for someone sixty-five or older can depend on employer size and multi-employer arrangements. Disability and end-stage renal disease involve other rules. Another person's payment order is therefore not necessarily yours. Do not cancel other protection simply because Medicare has begun. Compare the records held by the employer benefits administrator, insurer and Medicare before changing coverage or resolving bills.
