Mail it to DMV, PO Box 942869, MS C271, Sacramento, CA 94269-0001. Reporting the death does not automatically transfer a vehicle into a relative's name. If the deceased person's disabled parking placard is available, mark an X on both sides while keeping its number readable and include it. Separate rules apply to different plates; a relative should not continue using the deceased person's placard. Vehicle registration still needs attention while the estate is handled, including timely renewal or an appropriate Planned Nonoperation filing. For a registered vehicle that will not be driven, insurance and the Affidavit of Non-Use involve separate steps. A death notice replaces none of these. Title-transfer documents depend on the estate and transfer type, so check the official requirements before submitting.
